ABOUT ME.
HKUST Computer Science. Part-time at Evention. Looking for a full-time developer role in Hong Kong.
01
How it started
Since buying my first computer, I have been driven by a need to understand how systems actually work. I taught myself C++ and Python right after the DSE, and that habit of digging deep hasn’t left me. Today, I am a Computer Science graduate from HKUST, currently working part-time at Evention. With 2 years of hands-on experience, I am looking for a full-time developer role in Hong Kong where I can continue growing into system architecture and project management.

The turnaround
My drive wasn’t always this focused. During secondary school, I hit a wall and completely lost my motivation. Through career counseling and reading, I realized I had to change my trajectory. I learned to face myself—admitting I had lost the will, but forcing myself to do the work anyway. I put in the hours for revision and intensive courses, even on the days I didn't want to. That turnaround defined my work ethic; it even led a teacher to write me a recommendation and ask me to speak to the juniors. That period taught me the grit that I rely on today.
03
The deadline is the limit
When I moved on to study Software Engineering at IVE, I often found myself chosen to lead group projects. My instinct was always to over-deliver and build past what the grade required. However, I quickly learned a crucial lesson about real-world engineering: the deadline is the limit. Today, I compete with myself inside that limit. If the timeline allows, I add more; if it doesn't, I ship the absolute best version that can actually be delivered on time.

HKUST
My academic journey continued at HKUST, where I grounded my self-taught foundation with academic rigor, earning an A+ in COMP2012 (Object-Oriented Programming and Data Structures in C++) under Dr. Desmond Tsoi. Beyond the grade, I focused on building relationships based on trust and integrity—leading to a defining moment when Dr. Tsoi trusted me to write a commendation letter on his behalf for his teaching award.
05
Evention
At Evention, my work goes beyond writing isolated APIs inside a single subsystem. I wire modules together, deploy them to the cloud, and manage infrastructure on AWS using Docker, ECS, RDS, and load balancers—building platforms that have to hold up in front of live audiences. This architectural layer is where I continue to deepen my expertise.

What's next
Looking ahead, project management is the next direction I am equipping myself for. I participate in client meetings, scoping sessions, and architecture discussions to see how core decisions are made, balancing what the client asks for, what the system can take, and what the deadline allows. I actively look for responsibility past the code, taking on more decision-making with every project as I prepare for that role.
